BPC Supports DFCC Bank’s Eight-Language ATM and CRM Innovation

SmartVista provides the payments infrastructure behind the multilingual experience

BPC, global leader in payments technology, has supported DFCC Bank in introducing Sri Lanka’s first ATM and Cash Recycler Machine experience available in eight languages. The innovation is backed by modernised ATM, CRM, card-switching and card-issuing infrastructure implemented through BPC’s next-generation SmartVista platform

Making self-service banking easier and more accessible for Sri Lankans and international visitors, the facility allows customers to select their preferred language at the beginning of a transaction and proceed in English, Sinhala, Tamil, French, Chinese, Russian, Hindi or German. The multilingual capability is available across DFCC Bank’s ATM and CRM network, including locations with significant international and tourist activity, such as the arrivals terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport, Ella, Arugam Bay and Hiriketiya.

DFCC Bank developed the multilingual proposition in response to a clear customer need. As Sri Lanka welcomes visitors from a wider range of international markets, the Bank recognised that language should not become a barrier to completing an essential financial transaction.

For international visitors, the facility removes the uncertainty of navigating an unfamiliar banking interface in another language, allowing them to withdraw cash with greater confidence and independence. Sri Lankan customers also benefit from a self-service experience available in Sinhala, Tamil and English.

The Bank approached multilingual access as part of the complete customer journey, reviewing language selection, screen instructions and transaction prompts to create a clear and intuitive experience.

Subash Chandra Bowse, Country Director for Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Maldives at BPC, said, “DFCC Bank brought a clear and ambitious vision to this transformation: to strengthen its payments foundation while making self-service banking more relevant and accessible to the people using it. The eight-language ATM and CRM experience demonstrates how that vision has been translated into a practical customer benefit. We are proud that SmartVista provides the secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure supporting this first-of-its-kind initiative and DFCC Bank’s wider plans for digital growth.”

Commenting on the initiative, Vindya Solangaarachchi, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of DFCC Bank, said, “Technology creates the greatest value when it removes difficulty from an everyday experience. For someone arriving in Sri Lanka, an ATM may be one of their first interactions with the country. Being able to complete that transaction in a familiar language provides confidence from the outset. Equally important is ensuring that self-service banking remains accessible to our local customers in Sinhala, Tamil and English. This initiative reflects our belief that technology should adapt to the customer, rather than expecting the customer to adapt to the technology.”

The implementation reflects a shared view that successful digital transformation must connect technical capability with a genuine customer need. While SmartVista provides the infrastructure behind each transaction, DFCC Bank’s multilingual experience determines how simply and confidently the customer can complete it. Together, these capabilities strengthen the Bank’s self-service banking ecosystem and create a foundation for further customer-focused innovation.
